2 Weeks Closer!

Hi all! My name is Michael Oaster. I am a junior nursing major at Widener University, a small university about 10 miles outside of Philadelphia. In this blog, we will be talking about our experiences as a nursing student, as well as trying to balance my work life and social life, while maximizing study time. If nothing else, I hope this serves as a humorous, insightful, and entertaining look at the truths of nursing school.

Today, we are going to talk about the first 2 weeks of junior year. As some of you who may read this and know me personally will know, I work a full time and a part time job in order to pay for school. These first two weeks of the semester have been eventful, with myself working almost every night (I had off on Thursday for the first time in two weeks) to try to maximize my work hours while still making all of my classes. It has been stressful to balance to say the least.

On a positive note, I am finally at a point in my schooling where I feel like I have accepted responsibility, and have begun to take school more seriously. Previously, I slacked off a lot throughout the semester, and would procrastinate as much as I could. So far this semester, I have been working ahead as much as possible. I even went to a professor's office hours for some additional guidance, which is something I had only done in a very limited number of cases, usually when it was too late. I feel personally fulfilled in accomplishing this, though it may seem so minor to most.

Classes are interesting. I really feel like I am going to love my clinicals. Both of my instructors seem really nice and approachable, and both of them are very open to questions. Though the majority of clinicals will be online, I think the two instructors that I have are doing everything in their power to make the classes engaging and educational. I am a little bit nervous for Pharmacology, as this class seems as though it is going to take a lot of time and effort to prepare for the abundance of material. I really do believe though that my professor is going to be amazing, as she is very well versed in this field, very experienced, and pretty good at bringing it down to a student level so far.

This is my fourth school year at Widener, as I had to repeat a year due to my own personal irresponsibility, but this is probably the most excited that I have been for school. We are two weeks closer to the rest of our lives, and I can honestly say that I am so excited to be on this journey with all of you, whether you are a fellow student, a faculty member, or somebody that randomly stumbled upon my blog. Just remember, we are all in this together, and we only have 58 more weeks of school until graduation, but who's counting?
